Debut Novel in YA genre!

I am sure everyone knows of the show "Bones", right? And that the show was actually made after books written by Kathy Reichs, right?

Well, now Kathy is diving into the YA genre with her first book in a series, titled, "Virals" which is due out November 2.
Virals

I am very excited about this because before I discovered YA all I did was read adult fiction. Criminal, psychological and medical thrillers mostly. So this is such a treat to have such a great author try her writing in the YA specter.

I know that lately there has been a flood of vampire and werewolve stories, which don't get me wrong, I love those books, but it is refreshing to read something that does not pertain to them.

Check out the trailer for "Virals" below and then check out the book on November 2!

(OK, so I guess that trailer doesn't tell you too much, but the wolf is a bit scary, no?)

Until next time, Have a good "read"...

Been busy/Update

I just wanted to apologize for my lack of substantial posts. I have been busy with work this past week. The schedule had been switched up to accommodate other peoples' request offs, so I ended up working more and days I usually do not. So on top of that, I have just been tired.

With that being said, next week should be a better week. I hope not to miss any Memes and I hope to get another review from my daughter cause we know I am way behind on that also.

Well, today is Halloween so don't forget to enter my contest if you want. I will be judging costumes probably on Tuesday because I believe I will be off on that day.

So have a fun and safe day/night!!

Until next time, Have a good "read"...

THE GRAVEYARD BOOK-Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book

I am sorry, but I just couldn't get into this book. I know there have been nothing but positive reviews for this book, but it just didn't do it for me. I felt as if I was on a plateau....I understand this was written for MS so maybe that is why I couldn't get into it.

I am not saying it was a horrible book. The writing was good, the storyline was clever and the characters were interesting, but it just wasn't for me

THE PACT-Jodi Picoult

The PactThe Pact by Jodi Picoult

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love this book! I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started it because I have heard a few reviews where people didn't really care for Jodi's writing, but I loved it!!

I could not put this book down. Everytime I did I kept thinking about it and what would happen next.

This story is about a teenage boy and girl, Chris and Emily, who grew up together. They live next door to each other and literally have known each other since they were born. Their parents are the best of friends and Chris and Emily grow real close also.

Since they are babies Chris and Emily spent all their time together. Up through their highschool days they were inseparable so it was only natural that they would start to date.

Sometime when Emily is 15 she starts to become depressed and suicidal. She confesses to Chris what she feeling and makes him promise not to tell no-one. What starts off as something that Chris thinks he can handle turns quickly into something too big for him and Emily ends up dying as a result and Chris is arrested and stands trial for the death of her.

But did Chris do it? Was he involved in Emilys actual death or was he just at the scene?

This book goes back and forth between "Then" and "Now" showing what led up the tragic moment and what is happening in the "now" with Chris and his trial.

I love the way this story is written. It makes you feel like you are a part of this book. You feel as if you really know the characters and you feel such empathy towards them.

This story covers love, real love, the pure kind that only a teenager feels. The intense kind of love where you feel nothing else matters except the one you are with. What would you do for your "true love"? How far would you go to make them happy?

This story also covers tragedy and what people go through and how some people cope with loss such as this. Emilys parents each deal with her death differently, just as Chris's parents each deal with his arrest and trial differently.

This story covers acceptance, even after such a huge event in ones life. One that alters it so much you don't know if you will ever be "normal" again.

This story covers such an intense subject matter and is a really deep read. It is not for the feignt of heart. There were a few times I had to put the book down for a minute just to get my head around what was happening, but I always had to go back to it a little while later because it was that good!

So if you haven't, please pick up "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult and check it out...

IMM/10-22-10

I got a ton of books in my mailbox today! 2 were from eBay, 4 from Amazon and 3 from Rachel at In the library of the Lady Violet...I won her birthday bonanza and I am so excited about the books I got...Thank you Rachel!!!

Online Bookstores

So I have been addicted to buying books online lately and so I thought I would share the different places that I shop and what some of the perks are on each one. (No, I am not getting paid for talking about these sites)...

Goodreads is an online swap site. You don't have to actually have any books listed to buy books from others though. On this site you only pay for shipping and so if you request 3 books from the same person you only pay for what shipping would be for the 3 books. Not each book individually, which I think is pretty cool. Goodreads also has a wish list where you can add books to and they will notify you when something on your wish list becomes available. There are also different communities, etc.

Fragment Friday (3)

Fragment Friday is hosted by Book Chic Club. It is a new meme that I am going to be doing now and I am really excited about it.

You take either your current read or a favorite book and you read just a fragment of it and hopefully draw others into the story and intrigue them enough so they will go out and get the book.

Another change...

OK, I have decided to change things up a little bit again. I know that I have made pages for certain things, such as reviews and links to people to check out...

Well, I just realized that the only way people will know if I posted anything new on those pages is if they click on them and I was also putting the new posts at the bottom! Duh! So I have changed that and I am now also going to start putting reviews on the main page and also on the "review" page.

I may also add cover art and links to people to check on the main page also if I feel strongly about it/them.

So please check back often.

Until next time, Have a good "read"....

HALLOWEEN CONTEST/GIVEAWAY!!

I wanted to do something fun for Halloween, since it is my favorite holiday (although I don't participate in it myself anymore)....

So, what I was thinking was that whoever has the best costume from the following two categories will win a book (value: $10US) from thebookdepository.com.

Since I love the scary and creepy of Halloween the best it is only appropriate for me to have a category for the SCARIEST costume....creativity is a plus!

And the next and last category will be the most unique costume. And by this, I mean not a costume that was bought at the store all in one package. I mean that who ever puts together the best costume by themselves; something from here and something from here and something from here, etc and puts it all together....

HOW TO ENTER!
  • Leave a comment telling me what you are (if explanation is needed) on this blog leaving a link to where I can see you in your costume
  • If you don't have anywhere to post your pic online, still Leave a comment, then send a pic to my email address
WINNER DETAILS

I will announce the winner by 3 days after Halloween. I will also send an email to the winner, who will have to respond back to me within 3 days with their snail mail and the name of the book they would like from thebookdepository.com...

Have fun with this! Can't wait to see everyones costumes...

Until next time, Happy "reading"...

Banned from the computer!!

OK, so it is almost 11 at night and I just got done ordering 4 books from Amazon!!! I seriously need to be banned from the computer at night....It seems as if this is when I always do the worst damage.

During the day I don't order anything....I have no idea why I did it either. OK, I do know why...because I could...no, seriously...because:

1. I usually get my books in the mail from The Book Depository or Goodreads.com...and I know at least for The Book Depository it always takes 2-3 weeks to get my books. But it is free shipping so that is why I order from there. Anyway, I wanted to order something online and see if I would get my books any quicker...so we will see. I also got free shipping at Amazon because I spent at least $25...

2. Because I have no will power at night. When I am laying in bed half asleep. And,

3. Because there was money in the bank and it was so easy to push that little button..."place order"....

Yep...I think I need to be restricted on using the computer. I should be banned from it at night.

Is anyone else like me? Do you have vulnerable times where you always fail to have self control? Please let me know and tell me there are others like me...  :)

Series or Stand Alones?

I have been reading for a long time and have never, until recently, actually read a series of books. Or so I thought.

I have always been addicted to James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, Tess Gerritson, Johnathan Kellerman, etc and have always read their books in no particular order. I never even thought that the books had to go in a particular order and I never seemed to be lost in a book because of that.

Until I started reading YA books and getting involved in the book community on youtube did I realize that some books are meant to read in a certain order and that James Patterson, Johnathan Kellerman and Tess Gerritson were all authors that had "series" of books. I guess you learn something new every day.

I was very excited about this and so proceeded to buy a bunch of different YA series. But then after the first one in about 3 of the series I remembered how I was and I would grab a different book to read next. Because, you see, I have a short attention span and change my mind so quickly that I can't sit through reading each book in a series, one after the other. But now I keep looking back at the other books in the series that I "started" and know I should get back to them and finish it, but now it feels like a chore and the more I think I should, the more I don't want to.

Which leads me to this question....do you like books in a series or stand alone books?

I guess if I read a new series that just came out that would be different because then I would have to wait a while until the next one was available.

I have discovered that I much rather like stand alone books and so will in the future buy only stand alone books or series that have just come out.

Until next time, Happy "reading"....

Guest Reviewers

I am always on Youtube watching book hauls, bookshelf tours, reviews, etc. and I thought it would be great to have some guest reviewers on my blog.

Everyone does reviews differently from others. Whether it is just a tad different or a whole lot different, there is always a difference. Also, there are just too many books out there and I may not read a book that is currently hot or what have you, so I thought I could have someone else do the review for this blog instead.

My first guest reviewer is Renee from Nehomas2. She is from Australia and does book hauls and reviews. Check out her youtube channel and subcribe to her...

I won an Award!! Yeah me!

So I was going through my comments...OK, like my 1 comment, haha....that I didn't even realize I had and I found out was given an award by In the forest book reviews. Thank you so very much!! I am so excited to have received this and am excited to answer the questions...

Here is what needs to be done:

1.Thank and link back to the person that gave this award.
2.Answer the 10 survey questions.
3.Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic.
4.Contact the bloggers you’ve picked to let them know about the award.

Questions:

1.If you blog anonymously are you happy doing it that way; if you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now? I don't blog anonymously and I wouldn't think to do it that way. I don't really understand the meaning behind that. 2.Describe one incident that shows your inner stubborn side: Yesterday I bought two new bookcases and I was determined to get them put up and all the furniture in my room and the frontroom rearranged by the end of the night so I could put my books on the shelves, even though I felt like crap.
3.What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror? A girl and not a women (I am very young looking and it sucks at time).
4.What is your favourite summer cold drink? Either Pepsi or Sweet Tea from McDonalds.
5.When you take time for yourself, what do you do? Usually read or just enjoy the peace and quiet.
6.Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it? I still want to learn to have some patience and know how to save (I spend all my $$-on books of course).
7.When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever , the shy person, or always ditching? I was the shy person...
8.If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment of your life what would you see? I don't know right now
9.Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events? I like to do both. I like to talk a lot so I blog about usually anything that I want to share.
10.If you had the choice to sit down and read or talk on the phone, which would you do and why? I would definetly READ!! I don't care to talk on the phone. If I have anything to say I usually text anyway...

I am passing this on to: (I don't know a whole lot of bloggers so I won't have 15)

Awww....Danny and Sandy???

OK, so if you don't know, Grease is my FAVORITE musical of all time!! I can watch that movie over and over and over again. I even went and seen the play on Broadway....

So, when I seen the cover of this book, I immediately thought of Grease....who wouldn't? Just read the title..."Endless Summer"....Just like one of the songs, "Endless Summer Nights"...

Have no clue what the book is about but I want it just because of the cover.... :)

Dystopian Challenge

So, I joined a dystopian challenge a few weeks back thinking it would be fun and easy, as I would only have to read between 2-4 books (Level 2), but it's not as easy as I thought.

I read a lot and rather quickly I believe so I thought I could knock these books right out. But I have to be in a certain mood to read certain books and I just haven't been in the mood to read dystopian lately. Or rather, there have been other books that I would much rather read.

So, here I am, stuck having read only 1 dystopian book and the challenge is ending soon. I think I need to figure out something...I mean, c'mon! I only have to read ONE more at the minimum!

Until next time, Happy "reading"...

So anyway, my husband and I stopped at Barnes & Nobles in our old neighborhood and I took some pictures, so I thought I would post them so you could check out how our YA section is set up...Enjoy!

Re-organizing bookshelves...

I usually get bored with stuff and so end up moving stuff around. My family knows that nothing in the house will stay like that for long so that don't get used to the way stuff is.

So since I have been still acquiring books I was bound to run out of room. I had some shelves from a bookcase we tried to salvage from someones garbage, but the bookcase fell apart and we were left with the shelves. I am glad that I didn't toss those too.

I took two of the shelves and added one to a bookcase I already had and my husband took another and put it in my entertainment center since I wasn't nor do I plan on using it to put a TV in....Now I have more room.....enough for the books I already have plus some....

Check out my youtube video to see how it turned out.

Until next time, Happy "reading"...

Still reading....

So, I am still reading "Dreamside" by Graham Joyce and I am only pg. 50!! Usually I go through a book in a day or two, and with this only being 250pgs I should have been through this and on to my next book. But....I'm not...obviously....

I don't know what it is, but I just haven't had the time to read lately. Between work (my schedule was different this week then usual) and then shopping lately (for my new camera from my dear hubby for our Anniversary, which happens to be tomorrow) and taking my daughter for her Halloween costume, etc. By the time I have been ready to lay down and read I have been just so tired.

OK, OK, so I have been also watching way too many youtube videos...LOL! And posting some (have to try out my new camera)...but after I am done with my blog I truly plan on getting at least 2/3 through this book. Hopefully I can actually finish it so that I can start another one since it is only 4 in the afternoon right now...

Until next time, Happy "reading"...

Book Reviews

From now on book reviews are going to be under the "Reviews" tab on the top of the page.

I will doing reviews for all the books I have read and some I may just leave a link to my youtube video... (youtube channel: ocdofbooks)...

Majorly Disappointed!! (Book Haul)

OK, remember I was just saying the other day how I was excited about my librarys annual booksale, which was yesterday?? But then I said I didn't want to get too excited because I didn't want to be disappointed basically...well, I was MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED!!

Yeah, and I was not the only one...usually the annual booksales take up a whole conference room with books still in boxes that couldn't fit on the tables. Well, this year all the books took up literally 8 6ft tables plus SOME (because that is all there were) paperbacks on 4 4ft racks. It was absolutely horrible! Even the lady working it said so. She couldn't believe how bad it was this year. There just weren't donations coming in over the year.

I only got 2 books from there...I had a budget to work with and with the books costing .75 I figured I could get around 50 books, if I spent my whole budget....yeah, that didn't happen. I spent $1.50!!

There literally were NO children's books and maybe about half a dozen YA books, with 3 that did not have covers. Very, very sad... :(

So here is my youtube video showing what I got at that sale, what I got at the library book store and what I got in my mailbox (oh, plus Walmart & Plato's Closet)...

Plato's Closet-Jerk, California by Johnathan Friesen
Library Book Store-The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult
